The Israeli forces set up checkpoints at the gates of the mosque compound, where they stopped, searched, and denied entry to many worshipers, according to Palestine's Wafa News Agency.
They also assaulted a young man and a woman, causing the woman to faint, and detained them near the Al-Asbat Gate, one of the main entrances to the mosque.
The Islamic Waqf Department, which oversees the mosque, said that nearly 20,000 worshipers managed to pray inside the mosque despite the Israeli restrictions.
However, some youth had to pray in the nearby Ras Al-Amoud neighborhood, as they were prevented from reaching the mosque.
The regime has restricted Muslims' access to the holy mosque especially since it waged a brutal aggression on the Gaza Strip in October.
