TEHRAN (IQNA) – Morocco’s 16th international Holy Quran competition will be organized later this month.

The western city of Casablanca will host the Quranic event on September 27-28, Morocco’s Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry said.

Contenders will compete in Quran memorization, Tarteel recitation, Tajweed and Tafseer (Quran interpretation), it added, Al-Yawm Al-Maghribi website reported.

It will be launched at 10:30 AM local time on Tuesday, September 27, at the Quranic school affiliated to the Hassan II Mosque

According to the ministry, Quran memorizers and reciters from Arab and Muslim countries in Asia and Africa as well as a number of countries in Europe will take part in the contest.

It said the competition is held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as part of the ministry’s efforts to promote Quran memorization, Tajweed and Tafseer.

Morocco is a North African Arab country bordering the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Islam is the predominant religion in Morocco, with some 99 percent of the population adhering to it.
