A car bomb went off near Al-Samoud Bridge in front of al-Jomhuri Hospital, Mawazin News reported.
According to the Iraqi security forces, at least four people died in the blast and many more were injured.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.
However, Asaad al-Edani, the governor of Basra, said the explosion “carries fingerprints of the Daesh (ISIL of ISIS)” terrorist group.
In late 2017, Baghdad declared victory over Daesh in the country.
However, the terrorist group still maintains a presence in rural areas of Anbar, Diyala, Kirkuk, Saladin, and Mosul.
The Iraqi army and Popular Mobilzation Units (PMU) continue to carry out frequent operations against the group in various parts of the country.
