Thaqalayn TV Launches Int’l Tarteel Recitation Competition
Dubbed “Wa Rattil” (…and recite the Quran in a distinct tone- Verse 4 of Surah Al-Muzzammil), the TV Quran contest is broadcast every day during the holy month of Ramadan on Al-Thaqalayn.
Renownd qari Ahmad Najafi is the producer of the TV Quran contest.
Hundreds of qaris from across the Muslim world have submitted files of their Quran recitation to the TV network, some 100 of them making it to the main round after scoring the most points.
According to the TV channel’s public relations office, Quran experts from different Muslim countries have been invited to assess the performance of the contenders.
Every eight days, a new panel of arbiters is formed to judge the performances, it said.
In the first eight days, Ahmed Jassim al-Najafi from Iraq, Ahmed Abdul Hakim from Egypt, Jalal Masoumi from Afghanistan, and Mohammad Ali Dehdashti from Iran serve in the panel of judges.

Tarteel is the Arabic word for hymnody. The term is commonly translated in reference to the recitation of the Quran “in proper order” and “with no haste”. It is the measured recitation of the Quran in rhythmic tones according to the rules that explain how to recite the Quran.
Al-Thaqalayn is a satellite TV station broadcasting various programs with religious and cultural themes.
The Arabic-language TV, which was launched in Ramadan of 2008, aims to promote the Islamic culture and the teachings of the Holy Quran and Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).
It also seeks to strengthen the institution of the Islamic family through special programs for women, children and young adults.
Ramadan, which began on Tuesday, March 12 this year, is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
It is a period of prayer, fasting, charity giving and self–accountability for Muslims around the world.
The Quran was revealed to the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) heart in this month.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.
They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
