A large number of pilgrims from Iraq and other countries as well as the staff of the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine take part in the ritual.
It began on Tuesday, the first day of Ramadan, and will run through the last day of the blessed month.
It includes reading one Juz (part) of the Quran. The Holy Book has 30 Juzes, meaning the participants read the entire Quran once in the 30 days of Ramadan.
The qaris of the Astans of Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS) as well as top Quran reciters from other Arab and Muslim countries recite the Quran at the program.
According to Karrar al-Shammari, head of the Quran media department of the Astan’s ar-ol-Quran Center, the ritual of Ramadan Quran reading is also being held in the center’s branches in other governorates of Iraq.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
