Contest Held for Representatives of Shia, Sunni Quran Centers in Pakistan

TEHRAN (IQNA) –  A Quran competition was held in Pakistan earlier this week for representatives of Shia and Sunni Quran centers.

 

The Iranian Culture House in Karachi organized the contest in the categories of memorization and recitation of the Quran.

Some 100 Qaris and Quran memorizers representing 30 Quranic centers took part in the contest.

The preliminary staged had been held in the centers for two months and the top contenders made it to the final round.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Iranian Consul General in Karachi Ahmad Mohammadi hailed the large number of participants in the competition.

He also noted that the winners will represent Pakistan in Iran’s annual international Quran competition.

Bahram Kian, head of the Culture House, also addressed the ceremony, saying the Culture House plans to organize Quran recitation sessions in cooperation with Sunni Quranic centers of Karachi in December.

He added that a number of prominent Qaris from Iran, Egypt, Indonesia and Malaysia will be invited to attend the sessions.
