Saudi Arabia Rejects Reports on Cholera Cases in Hajj

Some media outlets had reported that 50 pilgrims have been diagnosed with cholera in the Batha al-Quraysh area.

The ministry said it laid a quarantine in the area after the reports and investigated the issue, coming to the conclusion that the reports have been inaccurate.

It added that necessary measures have been taken to prevent any spread of cholera among pilgrims.

Earlier, the Saudi Passport Department said more than 1.4 million pilgrims have arrived in the kingdom from different countries by Thursday.

It said the vast majority of them have traveled to Saudi Arabia by air while 79000 pilgrims have come by and some 13000 by sea.

Some two million pilgrims are expected to take part in Hajj this year.

Last year, the total number of pilgrims was 1.8 million.

Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca that every able-bodied and financially able Muslim is obliged to undertake at least once during their lifetime.
