Int’l Quran Contest Kicks Off in Egypt’s Port Said

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The second edition of an international Quran competition got underway in a ceremony in Egypt’s city of Port Said.

 

According to al-Yawm al-Sabi news website, Egyptian Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Guma officiated the ceremony.

It has been organized under the auspices of Prime Minister Mostafa Kamal Madbouly.

A total of 55 contenders from 29 Arab and African countries are taking part in the contest.

They are competing in three categories of Quran memorization, Quran recitation, and Tawasheeh and Ibtihal.

The panel of judges, headed by Al-Azhar scholar Abdul Karim Salih, is made up of Quran experts from Egypt, Sudan, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.

The competition, named after legendary Egyptian Qari Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, will run until Tuesday, March 5.
