TEHRAN (IQNA) – Printed and electronic braille copies of the Quran were distributed among visually-impaired students at the Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey.

According to Turk Press website, the copies have been published by a Qatari charity foundation.

They were handed out to the students at a ceremony on Tuesday.

A number of officials, including Kamil Yilmaz, the Mufti of Istanbul were present at the ceremony.

Addressing the event, Yilmaz referred to verse 46 of Surah Hajj of the Holy Quran “… For indeed it is not the eyes that grow blind, but it is the hearts, which are within the bosoms, that grow blind,” and underlined that seeing is what the heart does and not the eyes.

Braille is a writing system which enables the blind and partially-sighted people to read and write through touch.

It was invented by Louis Braille (1809-1852), who was blind and became a teacher of the blind.

In recent years, the Holy Quran and religious books have been printed in Braille to help the visually-impaired Muslims read the texts with ease.
