Seminar in Srinagar Features Quran, Knowledge
The Seminar was jointly organized by Shah-i-Hamdan Institute of Islamic studies and Department of social welfare Kashmir University.
Many intellectuals and Islamic scholars from Kashmir and outside addressed the audience including the chief guest vice chancellor Kashmir University Professor Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi,
While delivering the inaugural speech director Department of Islamic studies Professor Abdul Rashid Bhat said that “the seminar is meant to approach the issues of knowledge, education and development from the Quranic viewpoint and explore the various aspects of the theme”.
He added: “Islamic legacy of education is not merely an academic exercise but a serious pursuit of intellectual creativity and character building”.
Professor Andrabi in his address urged the participants to make justice and equality their priority. He said, “Only faith is not sufficient but utilitarian and pragmatic actions play an important role in bringing peace and harmony to society”.
Former chairman, Department of Islamic Studies, Jamia Hamdard Professor Ishtiyaque Danish, said, “Development comes from education and these programs play a key role in promoting the Quranic perspective on knowledge, education and development of society.”
Stressing on education, he said, “Quran is all about education, justice and equality. So we Muslims must work hard on these components of Islam to eradicate sectarian violence and Islamphobia among masses.”
Famous naatkhawan (eulogy reciter) of Kashmir Ghulam Hassan Ghamgeen said that these seminars are very important for our young generation to boost moral education and the Islamic way of living”.
The two-day long seminar was based on two portions. In the first half the intellectuals and various noted Islamic preachers will deliver speeches, while in the second half various Islamic scholars and academicians across the country will contribute in the seminar by presenting their research papers.
The main topics of the research included – The Quran and Scientific method, the contribution of the Quran in the development of social sciences, the Quran and the personality development, impact of the Quranic legacy of education on the West, the Quran and modernization, and the Quran and globalization.
