Stories Effective in Teaching Quranic Lifestyle to Children
Speaking to IQNA, Shia cleric Hojat-ol-Islam Num Patan highlighted the effectiveness of telling stories when teaching children.
He noted that the Quran also has many stories that can be narrated in simple language for children to understand.
The stories of Prophet Abraham (AS), Prophet Saleh (AS), Prophet Solomon (AS) and others convey many teachings to kids, he said.
Num Patan also underlined teaching the Quran to children, saying parents should begin with small verses and help their kids learn the verses gradually and through practice.
"Learning the Quran for children should start before elementary school,” the cleric said.
He noted that motivation for learning the Quran is created in children if parents, who are role models for their kids, are keen to read the Holy Book and act upon its teachings.
"If we are good Quranic examples, our children will be motivated to follow us on this path,” he said.
Hojat-ol-Islam Num Patan, or Jamaleddin, is a PhD student of religious studies in Qom and a graduate of Qom seminary school.
Hailing from Kanchanaburi, a town in the west of Thailand, he travelled to Iran for studying religious studies.
On different occasions, including the holy month of Ramadan, he returns to his home country to propagate the teachings of Islam.
There, he holds Quran recitation sessions, Quranic courses and competitions in mosques for children, teenagers and the youths.
He also cooperates with Rasul Azam (PBUH) Islamic Institute in Thailand in the field of Quranic activities and publication of a Quranic magazine.
