Tehran(Iqna)- Malaysia's 61th In'l Quran recital and memorisation contest opens in Kuala lumpur convention center.

“It is translated through one’s actions and superior personality, and thus forms a model of a multi-racial Islamic country that can be emulated by the outside world,” said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Fuziah Salleh in her opening speech at the 61st International al-Quran Recital and Memorisation Assembly at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) last night.

During the speech Fuziah also welcomed judges and all 107 participants for both recital and memorization category coming from 71 countries for the 61st edition with the theme ‘Compassion for the Ummah Brings Mercy’.

“The participation from various countries symbolises their support and encouragement to the Malaysian government, despite being thousands of miles away and still willing to participate in the prestigious event.

“It is my hope that everyone would take this opportunity to know Malaysia better and more closely, exchange views and information, experience the culture of one another, and most importantly, appreciate the essence of the verses of the Quran," she added.

Fuziah said the Secretariat had also organized a series of tours for participants and judges as part of the event to introduce Malaysia to the world.

During the opening night, four participants recited the Quran including Harit Puang-Manee (Thailand), Mohammed Zalef Atiyah (Iraq), Man Mariyas (Cambodia) and Mammadov Tural Ikhtiyar (Azerbaijan).

The International Al-Quran Recital and Memorisation Assembly will be held for five consecutive days starting last night until April 20.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will close the event.
